About

IPC Genomics, LLC is dedicated to helping healthcare institutions, industry leaders, and legal professionals use pathogen genomics to improve infection prevention, outbreak response, and patient safety.

IPC Genomics was launched to translate cutting-edge genomic research into real-world impact for infection prevention and control (IPC). With deep expertise in hospital outbreak investigation, pathogen sequencing, and epidemiology, we provide tailored consulting for hospitals starting genomic surveillance programs, guide response during active outbreaks, and support legal teams navigating healthcare-associated infection (HAI) cases.

Our work bridges science, strategy, and policy—bringing the power of genomics to IPC teams, law firms, and medical device companies seeking to improve outcomes, prevent litigation, and strengthen healthcare quality. Whether you’re a hospital leader, legal expert, or innovator in the life sciences, we help you act on data that matters.

Alexander Sundermann, DrPH, CIC, FAPIC

Dr. Alexander Sundermann is a nationally recognized leader in infection prevention, outbreak detection, and genomic epidemiology. With deep expertise in applying whole-genome sequencing (WGS) to hospital-acquired infections, he has helped pioneer the use of real-time genomic surveillance to detect and stop healthcare-associated transmission.

He has led the implementation of genomic surveillance systems in hospital settings—guiding how facilities detect outbreaks, identify sources of transmission, and respond with timely, data-informed interventions. As an Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health, his research focuses on improving infection prevention practices through applied genomics, surveillance innovation, and epidemiological methods.

In addition to his academic and operational experience, Dr. Sundermann has contributed scientific expertise in the context of litigation involving healthcare-associated outbreaks. This unique perspective strengthens his ability to support legal professionals navigating infection-related cases.

Through IPC Genomics, he provides consulting services to hospitals, legal professionals, and medical device companies seeking to improve patient safety, mitigate outbreak risk, and integrate genomic data into actionable infection control strategies. His work connects cutting-edge science to real-world healthcare challenges—supporting both proactive prevention and rapid response when infections occur.
